Cooltours® - Nobile di Montepulciano Wine region
Montepulciano is a medieval and Renaissance hill town in the province of Siena in southern Tuscany and it sits high on a limestone ridge overlooking Pienza, Cortona and the Valdichiana flat area down below and in a beautiful clear day it shows the Trasimeno lake and its stunning views.
Montepulciano is a major producer of food and drink, very well know for its pork, cheese, lentils, and honey, but it is known worldwide for its wine. Not to be confused with the varietal wine merely made from Montepulciano grape in the Abruzzo region, connoisseurs consider its Vino Nobile one of the finest wines of Italy dated back to the 16' century.
A wine produced by the noble families, served to the Popes and produced still today with a varietal of Sangiovese (Prugnolo gentile) which found in this southern wine region of Tuscany its best expression.
Tasty, full bodied, cherry and plums aromas for a red wine to be paired with gamy food, roasted meat, aged cheeses after a long aging in big oak barrels you can see in the downtown where the historical wineries are.
