Cooltours® - Truffle Hunting in Tuscany

A perfect day for demanding palates

Despite the truffle reputation seems linked to the name of Alba a town in Piedmont world wide known for its truffles, Tuscany hosts several off the beaten path areas where truffles grow in a pollution free environment: San Miniato and San Giovanni d'Asso along with the hills overlooking the mist-filled Arno valley.

The truffle season lasts approximately 11 months and the summer black truffle appears on menus in early June.

The prized white truffle, sometimes called the white diamond of Italy, grows from September to December.

Regardless of the season, skillful hunters and their faithful dogs will help us finding some delicious truffles during our truffle hunting followed by a gourmet lunch with the possibility take part to cooking class to understand better how prepare this precious fungus.

Truffle hunting can be done almost the all year round although I do not recommend hot months like August or rainy days just for logistics and transportation.

Most likely your day will be starting with a pick up at your lodging, drive to the destination where our truffle hunters will wait for us.

You will wear rubber boots to start walking in the woods, listen to the hunters explaining all secrets about truffles and following the dogs while searching for this precious mushroom and you will experience the deep relationship between dogs and hunters.

After one hour or so we will be hosted by the family to taste this delicious products and you will be able to witness a cooking demo and learn how to clean, preserve and cook truffles.

Time permitting a winery visit can be included and an educational wine tasting will follow this experience.
